Never A Grey

With great respect, all fashion forwards know I cannot talk them through it. I am late! Patterns and prints have always been the fashion world favourites, but Spring '13 saw the rise and glide of stripes to take over the former domain by storm. From luxury brands like Etro, Michael KorsOscar De La Renta and Marc Jacobs to high-streets like ZARA (love) and Tommy Hilfiger, there has been no stopping this trend. I picked up this shirt way back in March and since then have worn it with colour, prints and denim alike. That's until I decided to settle with the classics (much like this) for a meeting. That's the thing about stripes I believe. You do them in colour or in monotones, during the day or the night, they are enough to keep the 'geometric glamour' intact. Not to forget, the lovely slimming effect they add when worn vertically.

Which is your favourite stripped piece from your closet? Don't forget to share it with me in the comments section below!

Have a wonderful week ahead.

Trends and Classics : Leopard Print Blues

Having an animal print piece in your closet is more of a classic than a trend. It can be a dress, top, bag, shoes or a scarf, depending on the degree you are willing to incorporate it in your outfit. Designers, high end stores and even the local stores in your city, everyone has had a brush with this wild jungle. However, wearing animal prints does involve a few tricks and golden rules. Here's a quick drop down on how to bring out your wild side, albeit gracefully and stylishly.

1. The principal rule when wearing animal prints is to never, never and never overdo it. One piece or two are enough (and loud) to make a statement.

2. The basic principle while working with animal prints to build an outfit around that one prime piece. In my case, I wanted my leopard print courts to be the core of this outfit. I also added a leopard print blouse but narrowed its effect by adding a soft, contrast cardigan. The rest of the look was kept in black.

3. If you are a beginner in wearing/experimenting with animal prints, opt to wear them with another classic i.e. black and white. This is one look that works well especially in corporate wear. But remember, one item at a time. Also, if you choose to wear an animal print dress, keep your accessories minimal and in neutral hues.

4. Animal prints have a certain wild connotation to them. But pair them with soft pastels to wear a look that's tough and delicate all at once. You can take it a notch higher, by playing around with textures. Say wearing an animal print top with a pleated skirt.

5. Fashion is limitless. So be you. Hold up to the women of today, by pairing your animal print piece with florals - a top with a floral skirt, a floral dress with animal print shoes or basic jeans teamed with a floral blouse and leopard print blazer. Isn't this the best way to exclude your inner strength and confidence by keeping up your feminine front?

I hope you find these ideas useful. Would love to know your views through comments and emails. Have a wonderful day!

I BELIEVE

Starting this post with a kind note -
Dear 'Anonymous' readers. I truly appreciate your efforts to stop by my blog and further passing through all the clicks and checks to finally leave a comment. Opinion on what I wear  - YES, Suggestions on how to improve - YES, Inputs to advance my fashion knowledge - YES. Kindly, refrain from leaving comments that are personal. I appreciate criticism but judge me only on what you know of me from the blog, not on what you think you know about me!!

This post comes after long...and after a lot of pondering and self deliberation. Titled  'I Believe' just to convey a little message to all my lovely, loyal readers that I make mistakes even on this platform, I do not know everything and I never proclaimed I did. Just like many of you, I learn and am learning in this process...and I share that with you ensuring your support. So, Thank you so much!

A few of my fashion ideologies went into putting together this outfit. It is always fun to incorporate styles outside your comfort zone and what's even thrilling and pleasing is that your ideologies stand true to fit the bill. Here's a run-down on mine, I hope you feel the same on some :)

1. I believe in cultural fusion. The crisscrossing of Indian accents (my jewellery) with contemporary outfits works amazingly well. I am glad the stylists at Vogue India (Read: July Issue) believed the same.

2. I believe that simple and suave gold sandals are an accessory in itself. They are glamorous enough to complete an outfit.

3. I believe in NO fake bags in a blog post atleast.Period.

4. I believe that you shouldn't have a reason to wear trousers and a season to wear blazers. They are absolute wardrobe staples.

5. I believe in Orange and Animal Prints. Trust you me, the potential and instincts of these two abstracts can change outfit dimensions.

Fire In The Jungle

Shorts, without doubt are my absolute summer favorite. Hot-Pants, Cut-Offs, Bermudas, High-Waists or Mid Length...they occupy a supreme position in my wardrobe. This pair has been a strategic pick. (As.Strange.As.It.Might.Sound) I say so because I picked up this pair feeling that it would serve me a dual purpose - that of seeming like a skirt too!! (OK maybe from a distance but whatever!!) Also, I couldn't surpass this bold fact that these are floral...which might help you dig deeper into my Shorts-Skirt-Skirt-Shorts bid. With the rest of the outfit, I decided to keep it mellow and summery because I wished my Matryoshka doll pendent to take on the stage from here.

I referred to this outfit post as the craziest till date on  Facebook and Twitter. As the story goes, my mom and I were running regular errands when we spotted this beautifully poised Gulmohar tree standing in the very center of a residential locality. My mom told me that this tree is in full bloom once in a year and because of its flamboyancy is called 'Fire In The Jungle'. This made me jump with every possible emotion that makes you do so, and cash on the beauty life of the tree. The next step was to strategically plan a shoot. So, to cut it short I grabbed my phone, pretended to shoot the tree, but managed a good outfit shoot for you. (Iphone 4S my best investment till date :D)

New Found Love

I am stuck at believing that much like me you too chalk out your outfits before-hand. Indeed, I am someone who would decide on the what, when, where and how of an outfit at least two days before the 'scheduled event.' The very same happened with this outfit too. Except that whenever I tried it, I felt that the skirt was a little too huge for me or just wasn’t the right length. Until, the very I.have.nothing.to.wear moment dawned on me and this was the only tried and tested option available.

On finally wearing it, needless to say I fell in love with Mad Men again and was reminded of the 50’s, when full skirts epitomized fashion undergoing a ‘power’ revolution. What I came to love the most about Midi Skirts is that they are friendly enough to be molded into a classic symbol of femininity (Tip: A low hair bun  would perfectly complement this outfit. However, I choose to do my hair in a sleek pony-tail) as well as perfect to transform you into a retro chick.

* I Am Off To Work *

A big hello dear readers!! How have you all been?
I cannot believe that I am doing a post after some 10 days, and clearly I am very apologetic for the same. But I have a very HAPPY REASON to be away for quite some time now. And that HAPPY REASON is that I am employed...yayeeeee :D
I am one person who until some time was pretty much decided on not taking up a job any sooner (or later :p). Unlike many of my friends, I enjoyed a casual approach to life and never really worried that I have to work or weighed the pros and cons associated with the same. I quite enjoyed the creative space I lived in which involved very regular and some boring things (in that order), like, dressing up, shopping, hanging out with friends, visiting new spots even in the city I have lived in for ages, reading, watching re-runs of some of my favourite shows, gardening, sleeping (lots of it) and pretty much what you all must be doing.
But certainly being employed for over two weeks now :D:D:D, has changed my perception towards the above. I am starting to learn that a job doesn't mean an end to what you normally do or like to do, some thing I had so heard off in contrary. At least my job is proving to be a channel to throw in my creativity and in that process learn many wonderful and new things.
So, coming to talk what my job really is :) I am employed with an American concern named Iconoculture as a cultural fluent. My job involves writing observations on anything and everything that depicts consumer trends. This largely means now I do all that (Read dress up, shop, hang out with friends, visit new spots in my city, read, watch re-runs of my favourite shows to know what people or I actually like in them or do gardening) while I am on the job.
Being proved wrong, sometimes, isn't that bad a feeling...isn't it?

Coming over to what we all love the most..fashion, styles and good outfits :) I have stocked up all the outfits I wore over these days and can't wait to share the same with you :)
The outfit I wore for this post is something i wore when interacting with girls from a city college (It is in fact the college I graduated from :) ) I felt the outfit very much appropriate for a girl's college plus I was able to give it a formal hint too. Also, it had rained quite a lot over the past three days making the weather quite pleasant, so I could carry off this outfit with ease.

Here's what I wore:

I wore a simple summer dress with a blazer. Its a trend we all have been seeing a lot over magazines and the blog world. The very inspiration for this outfit for me came from the trend encyclopedia  Stylepile. You can check out my Stylepile account by clicking on the widget on your right ::)

Multiple bracelets, cocktail ring and peep-toe slingbacks in suede completed my look. Adding a blazer is a good way to touch-up a casual outfit. No doubt, we are seeing a lot of this trend.

Wearing:

Summer Dress: Thrifted
Blazer: Tailored
Peep-toe slingbacks: Local store in Chandigarh
Bracelets: Aldo
Ring: Thrifted

None of my pictures, sadly, do not include the bag I carried. Well with this outfit I carried my Victoria's Secret tote you see here.

So, how well do I wear this Stylepile - Inspired look?

P.S Though late A very Happy Independence Day to all my Indian readers. Jai Hind!!

Somethings Are Never Just "Basic"

Hello People :)

How are you all? I am still having the same woes regarding the weather and blah but I am also extremely overwhelmed by the wonderful support and encouragement you have been giving to my blog. A big big Thank You to you all. I hope, wish and pray for our togetherness for ever and ever :):)

This very outfit post of mine is my attempt to brighten up the basic jeans-T-Shirt routine. Jeans undoubtedly are the most comfortable garment one can slip into. Its not just the comfort that makes it a hit...its the durability factor (buying jeans in an investment..the garment stays with you for years and post that comands Vintage Value :p) as well. Also Jeans are the cushion(s) you can fall upon when on certain days your wardrobe just refuses to welcome you with a friendly embrace. Throw on a pair of your favourite Jeans, team it up with a T-Shirt, Shirt, Kurta or a formal blouse with some flats or heels and you are set to rock on for a casual/formal event.

However, if you truly get into the role of a FASHION BLOGGER wearing just the basic Jeans-T-Shirt even on "ONE OF THOSE DAYS" can pinch. Here is how I pumped up (sorry for the lack of a better word) two of my very basic outfits. I have to admit that on these two days my creativity cells were on fire.

Let me know what you think about that??

OUTFIT ONE - ALL THINGS BLUE

The day I happened to wear this outfit I felt as if I have wandered into some 'Bubble-Gum' world because all I saw around me were the sugar colours - Turquoise and Pink. Have a look :)

I wore a basic Turquoise tank (last worn here) with a Pink-Magenta warp. I accessorized the look by wearing a star pendant chain and a smiley cocktail ring, which in fact were not accessories. The star pendant is a key-chain from Madame Tussauds, New York and the smiley cocktail ring is a normal hair-band worn as a ring.

On My Blue Bed Cover :)

Neighbour's Pots :p

Wearing:
Jeans: Levi's
Tank: Aeropostale
Wrap: UCB
Peep-toes: Local store

OUTFIT TWO - OLD WORLD CHARM

In this very outfit, I wore the same Jeans with a nude blouse. Further I added a black summer jacket over it. To enhance the old world charm of the neutrals, I pined a black satin rose broach and a pearl neck-piece on the jacket's collar.

I completed the look with ballerina's in gold (you can catch just a glimpse of those in the picture below :( :( ) and a black tote.

Wearing:
Jeans: Levi's
Nude Blouse: Thrifted Dubai
Black Summer Jacket: Jonathan Martin Dubai
Bag: Elle
Rose Broach: Too old to remember!!
Pearls: Thrifted Australia
Ballerina's: Thrifted Chandigarh

So, Do you have a favourite from the two?? If Yes, I would love to know <3<3
