TrimmingsAndLace 2.0

Dressing chic and staying stylish during winters can often seem like a job in hand. As temperatures get more and more frigid, the layers start to bulk up and you often feel more like a person wearing a marshmallow than a woman in her best garb. Black pants, same old sweater and that go-to coat, well yes it is easy to get stuck in a rut during winters when the weather is miserable. However, a look curated with the right pieces – the coats, furs, scarves, hats and jewellery – dressing up becomes incredibly easy. Hence, as we stepped into the last run of the winter season, this pet project with team Vajor had to come through.

Street style has become one of the most popularly accepted and recognized fashion genre. Unlike the VIP accessed fashion shows, street style is your runway to showcase your style for the masses to see and eventually adopt. It’s that wheel that has set many a trends rolling and has also been a forecast into the future. Needless, to say this livewire genre was our inspiration for this month’s fashion stories. For the same, I chose to style pieces which are classics in terms of colour and silhouette but are very modish when put together as a whole.

The first look comprised of a black maxi skirt paired with a quilted top. The zipper details on the top render an edginess to the overall look but I chose to mellow down the same, keeping the overall appeal very feminine by adding this vintage broach. This look not only makes for a perfect work-wear but also if your profession demands you to strut the city streets like a boss.

I am sure for most of you winter-dressing shall now seem a little less difficult. Afterall, when fashion, love and coffee comes together, why ought anything to be difficult.

TrimmingsAndLace For Vajor : Building The Empire

My second look (first, in case you missed) featuring the work-wear collection by Vajor, is a tribute to all you corporate, power women who often feel contained in the silhouette of shirts and trousers and the perceived world of monotones. The latest corporate collection at Vajor, covers this zone albeit very fashionably. From gorgeous pencil skirts to dresses, from subtly embellished peplum tops to as-good-as tailored trousers, this collection is bound to transform all the mundaneness to corporate chic-ness. Many of you might have concerns with wearing body-con figurations to their corporate workplace. I have repeatedly vouched for Vajor's understanding and quality when it comes to this. Their fabrics and cuts are extremely superior and beautifully shape enhancing. So if you are worried about any underlines or your natural shape in general, I bet this collection is definite to make you love your curves like never before. I kept this look very minimalistic and sleek. To avoid any lure to a complete black and white look, I added a subtle contrast by way of these reading glasses and these delicate stud earrings.

TrimmingsAndLace For Vajor : Girl Boss

 photo _MG_7692copy copy_1.jpg photo _MG_7767 copy_1.jpg photo _MG_7897 copy_1.jpg photo Re-Edit_1.jpg photo _MG_7792 copy_1.jpg photo _MG_7708 copy_1.jpg photo _MG_7772 copy_1.jpg photo _MG_7749 copy_1.jpg photo _MG_7932 copy_1.jpg

Women and their work wear share a very symbolic relationship that has come of age. Work wear today, across our varied professional roles, is reflective of our choices, independent decision making and our capability to uphold and balance positions of power. Vajor has always rested its fashion ideology as an investment in statement and utility pieces. Vajor does apparels and accessories that are modern and structured, but find balance in the realms of femininity. The new Vajor work-wear collection is no different. The collection has been tastefully curated and thoughtfully categorized into - CreativeEntrepreneur and Corporate - to address women across multiple and dynamic career choices. The collection has been designed to include a mix of aesthetically pleasing body-con and ladylike silhouettes, structured layering pieces and preppy prints, warm neutrals and crispy colour palettes.element, which I felt pulled the look together without swaying away from the genre.
The first in the series of these three looks is my take on the entrepreneurial tier, the role I portray in my own life. The pieces included in this genre are stylishly relaxed yet well-structured to convey a no-fuss and an I-mean-business attitude. Because the pieces in this category are minimalistic in their demeanor they give you the liability to dress up or dress down depending upon your schedules. In this very look, I paired this extremely comfortable powder blue linen shirt-dress with a pair of Ikat print sandals in the same shade. The printed sandals add a great textural contrast to the overall look. I styled this look for the day I am running in and out of meetings and it is necessary that my attire speaks professionalism but is comfortable to get me through the day. For another day, spent sourcing or conceptualizing, I would prefer pairing the dress with these amazing oxfords. A strong red-lip for contrast, a pair of sexy sunglasses and an effortless bag to hold your on-the-go necessities, this look is for those of you who like spending their day out of a fashion editor’s closet.

Dressing for work comes with a different yet defined set of rules - some that we make for ourselves and some laid down by our work environment. Thinking about what to wear for work can feel like a job in itself. Undebatably, LACE is a tricky fabric to adorn as it always transcends the fine lines of sophistication and provocation. Some may argue that lace shouldn't be included in the work wear, but I believe that wearing lace is all about finding the balance. So for all you working girls, wanting to tune-up your work-style-quotient in lace, here are a few of my styling tips -

1. If you've always been conservative when it comes to lace and are now fancying an experiment, start with delicate yet well structured lace tops/shirts in basic colours. You can pair them with your favourite pair of trousers, a pencil skirt or underneath a well fitted suit.

2. If lace pencil skirts are your thing but you still want to remain in the "safe" territory, pair your skirt with a basic shirt or, if your work place allows, a T-Shirt. However, avoid printed or graphic T-Shirts in this regard. You can finish your look with a tailored blazer and a pair of pointy pumps.

3. When it comes to jewellery/accessories, less is always more. Much like my look, try sticking to minimalistic and dainty pieces. Yet again, if your work environment permits, you may experiment with contrasts in terms of colour.

4. The same principle as above applies when we talk of make-up. We ofcourse want our skin to look fresh and awake, but remember less is always more. I added a strong red lip for the purposes of this outfit. You always have a choice to go in for a more natural or a lip stained look.

5. If you choose to stray away from the basics and pick lace in shades of wine, aubergines, maroons or coloured pieces with a nude lining, anchor the rest of the look with muted accessories.

6. If an all out lace top, shirt or a skirt is not an option you can follow due to work constraints, a little peek-a-boo always works and adds so much textural and visual impact to the overall look. A lace hem peeking from just underneath your blazer or a structured jacket is an interesting dimension to the overall look.

7. Another interesting pairing can be to wear a lace blazer over your regular shirt, top or T-Shirt. It's safe and spot on chic.

8. Coming back to pencil skirts. If you feel that your skirt in any way is overwhelming, pair it with a top/shirt of the same colour i.e. ditch contrasts in terms of colours and textures. This shall render a very sleek and minimalistic look to the overall outfit. My personal tip would be to stick to minimal jewellery as well.

9. Whenever in doubt, add your favourite blazer!

10. Last but not the least, if your work place is a fancier version of what most of us would envy, go ahead and try this girl!

Talking of classics, I feel nothing complements a lady more than the classic sheath dress. For me what makes it timeless is how the hemline sits mid or below the knee, clean, sophisticated cuts and flattering necklines. Neutrals or solids, a simple sheath dress can be dressed up by adding accessories or worn on its own to make a demure statement. Being an ardent lover of minimalism and contemporary art, last week when I got an opportunity to style for Vajor, needless to say this fabulous dress caught my eye spot-on. White may not be a colour for fall for the faint at heart, but the unbound canvas it provides in terms of fashion and styling is hard to ignore. Besides, white is a colour that compliments all skin tones and works to soften the features. Power and immaculacy for me are the twin sides of white, depending on the silhouette you choose to adorn. And an elegant sheath dress certainly confirms to the former. This largely defines and supports the fashion basics at Vajor. Simple, sleek, sharp cuts in apparels, contemporary prints and modular jewellery and accessories, Vajor is for those who like making a serious and one-stop statement. I was torn between styling their wide range of skirts (this number being such a huge hit at the show) and gorgeous pieces from their latest The Wild Tribe collection, but this dress and an idea of putting together a minimal, monotone look got all votes. A red lip to add a strong colour pop and a beautiful sunset view to soften the frames, this outfit for me defines those little, unsaid pleasures of life that are fun, extravagant and fanciful.

The underlying premise of starting the blog, for me, was the ability to try and recreate runway looks which I so admire. Styling has always been a matter of ideology for me, a reinforcement of culture and personality and a domain constantly challenging to inspire, innovate and create something from what already exists, sometimes forgotten, in my closet. This look is my adaptation of Burberry's Fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection titled The Bloomsbury Girls. The collection in addition to being a customary celebration of the British culture was also an ode to the freedom of motion, the finesse of hand-painting and the art of tapestry. The coats and jackets, ponchos and blanket throws, dresses and scarves, bags and booties were obvious love...something that goes without saying. I personally loved this idea of creating a print mix and pairing a shirt dress with a scarf cringed to the waist. The magicked bite in this whole idea was the perfectly blended and balanced dose of colour and print between all elements. Also, for me it symbolized the perfect attire welcoming fall - just when dresses become longer and all you need is an additional layer to save yourself from the nip in the air. Unlike the collection, my bag and sandals were in solids, but I guess the distance remains only in owning those perfect pieces to achieve an actual rendition of the 'Burberry Look'. Talking of which, the verdict on mine should precede this..

I look forward to your comments and suggestions. You can drop them down as comments or can even stop by my Instagram for the same. Don't forget to check out Himanshu's too - @himshootz.
