The Monsoon Slouchiness

Although our part of the world stands rain deprived, the scorching heat and rising humidity calls for some comfort slouchy dressing. I feel, cotton and linen trousers/pants are an ultimate staple for this season, more for their weather friendliness than the style quotient they impart to the whole look. While khakis and whites  find a permanent place in the closet, I was tempted to try linen in colour. Luckily, the wonderful guys at b:kind sent me a pair in cheerful yellow which not only is a statement piece in itself but also the smile to be worn during the gloomy, rainy days ahead. Rather than going in for a T-shirt or a crop-top, with this look I tried my hand at some summer layering. I opted for a textured net wrap over a nude lace camisole which like these pants kept the whole look light and breezy. Nude pumps and minimal accessories finished the look, much so reflecting my mood for all things simple, stark and minimal.

Pants - c/o b:kind (See me wear yellow here)
Camisole - Marks & Spencer
Wrap - Boutique in Dubai

The Quirkviduality Duo

As a stylist, Autumn/Winter is my favourite time of the year. It’s the time when you can safely detach your fashion ideas from the conventional. You can throw on a scarf to brighten up the monotones and play around with colours and contrasts like never before. Against the dim sun cheerful prints help brave the cold, much like the vibrant plaids and tartans.
Talking of prints, fashion has forever been revolutionizing prints. I have never doubted the power of a print – be that florals, abstract, whacky, geometric or animal prints. However, post this I have never been surer of the power of a kitsch piece to make a statement like no other. THIS thanks to the pioneer of functional art in India – The Quirk Box. The Quirk Box products besides being fun, colourful, entertaining and a show-door to anything and everything mundane, are inspiring. They draw out a different perception, sometimes subjective, but always let the quirkviduality shine. Case in point this dream circus boyfriend jacket. Initially, my styling ideas were up against the wall with this jacket, but once worn all pieces came together and this statement jacket was ready to shine on.
A cropped top lends a wonderful balance to the boyfriend jacket, while keeping the femininity of the look intact. My infatuation with crop tops over seasons has grown by the day. Bra tops, crop tees, ruffled bandeaus' or corsets, this is one trend and I vouch for self, is not going to be ditched anytime soon. Statement earrings and some arm candy in neutral tones were my accessories of choice to enhance the look without diluting the glory of our center-piece!

Top - Promod
Peep-toes - Vero Moda (last seen)
Watch - Kenneth Cole

Love Struck...Twice!

I am definitely the nth person to be saying this, but online shopping has been a world saver. Yes indeed, there is a whole management and economical cycle involved to it. (I am struggling with self to not get into the details right now. Call it my MBA genes). In addition to the convenience factor in terms of effort and time, what’s applauding is that many of these stores carry multi-product lines. So, if you are looking to create an outfit from scratch, online stores provide you a ‘one-stop-shopping’ experience to the T. Among the many, the one store that is placed up on my list is Rooja. Rooja offers your conventional products with a little twist and quirk. There is always an element that is new and unique in its own way - be that clothing, accessories, shoes or home décor.
Likewise, when I was asked to pick an outfit from their wide range I had a real tough time stopping at just one. Maxis and illusion skirts being my love this season, I simply couldn’t look past this dress. Besides, I didn’t have a chevron piece in my closet so this came as a perfect addition. True to the picture, I was elated when I received my piece.
Much like the Rooja fundament of bringing out the unconventional, I decided to style this dress with traditional kundan jewellery.
This dress is my current favourite and with winters setting in, I can’t wait to style it with knits and blazers. Have you picked your favourite yet?

Magic Can Sometimes Be Just An Illusion

From high-waisted and retro to slim and neat, skirt is that one garment in your closet that offers the greatest variety of options. From pencil and A-Line skirts for office wear to the mini, midi and maxi route for the happy hours, skirts are a multi-faceted piece of clothing. What I personally love about skirts is their ability to stand out on their own and at the same time blend with the top/blouse/shirt/T-Shirt of your choice and lend the outfit feel of a complete dress.
Skirts - maxis and midis - are having a major fashion moment, but the new entrant to the universe has been the sheer trend. The 'Illusion Skirt' as it is being called popularly, finds a comfortable balance between sexy and elegant. While I found favourites in this and this when it came down to adding one in The TrimmingsAndLace Collection, I couldn't escape my inherent sense of choosing lace (how I love you). The styling with this outfit has been very simple and muted. While the floral shirt (last worn here) provides minimal degrees of colour, the embellished sling bag adds texture to the entire outfit. I preferred the jewellery to be in the same colour tone as the rest of the outfit, so as to let the skirt shine unperturbed.
So, does the outfit move up your alley? Afterall, as quoted by Voltaire, "Illusion is the first of all pleasure." I say the next is shopping?

Winter Contrary : Sequins and Powder Pink

Considering the climatic conditions in which I pen this outfit post, it indeed is contradictory. As of today or the past fifteen days, I haven't enjoyed the privilege of wearing just one layer or even baring my legs! However, what is not conflicting and can be agreed upon is the fact that fashion lasts forever. Trends come and go, but trends that choose to stay, become a chapter to be swallowed in the ever expanding fashion Bible. Case in point - Sequins and bling! I wouldn't call sequins and bling a 'trend' anymore. They are fashion, bookmarked to last forever. Be that spring/summer or fall/winter there are always reasons and ways enough to adorn bling. What can vary per say is how you choose to wear it. Traditionally, fall/winter calls for deeper shades. But with this particular look I decided to attempt monotones. The good part about monotones is that you get to play with textures by way of your accessories. To experiment that, I picked up every accessory matching the gold skirt and the powder pink cardigan (let's call it blush pink please!). On a separate note, blush pink is fast climbing my color crush list. Stay tuned to see more of it this summer. For the while, do you remember this blush pink look?

Random : Quirky Prints and Horses

Much like this (and this), the post today is all random. Sometimes, there are so many things to say and much like the thoughts, your words get scattered too. The best way to resolve the situation perhaps is a drop down list...so here we go :)

1. First and foremost, I have some really really exciting news for all of you. It is something that has been there, known and seen but yet wasn't prevalent enough...what is it...stay tuned!! Pssshh...you would have known had you been following me on Instagram - @trimmingsandlace

2. I am beginning to feel some fascination for quirky prints. Topping the list, horse print. Did I tell you, I wish to own a horse someday?

3. Current crush is the octagonal sling bag up for a giveaway. If you haven't signed in for it yet...your chance to do so here.

4. Navy, Mustard, Oxblood (basically burgundy christened), Wine, Gold are my lust-colors this season.

5. I spent some good number of hours studying Baroque recently.

6. I am loving minimalism in fashion like never before.

7. This dress has a pretty back. Sadly not captured in pictures. You can view it here. I like the Navy-Lilac-Navy-Red-Navy-Magenta of this dress too!!

8. Accessories you don't like...second thoughts on wearing them all by themselves? Mix them up with other pieces and stack up!!

9. New Love - Metallic Nail Foils - Planning a DIY- Loving metallics :)

10. Done blabbering!

The Sky's Blue - For Me And You

I quite enjoy the idea of an impromptu outfit shoot. For first it helps me answer the hovering question as a YES that I do wear these outfits in my everyday life. Second, it helps me put to test my not-planned, not-tried-before outfit ideas. Beyond that, a reason to wear florals...Really?? I believe as much as we might want to categorize, 'Florals' can hardly be confined to a particular fashion season. While bold, large floral prints welcome as into spring, soft flora provides respite from the scorching summers. Florals cast in deep hues suggest the autumn festivities while in winters florals magically work to cheer us up on a foggy day, reminding that the dewy spring is just around the bend. Whatever be the season's color palette or silhouette of choice there can never be any escaping the high-octane dose of floral power.
On the side, blogging is helping me re-discover my fashion sensibilities. Like, I cannot miss out on adding a feminine touch into my regular style. I added that tinge of petiteness to this otherwise casual look with my earrings. Further, I love to go statement. Thus, with spring worn so boldly on my sleeves I kept the look basic by pairing it with mutes. Finally, a belt clinched to the waist to structure this flowy top.
So, does the happy blues (test) score well?

Beyond the REGULAR

My association with mint jeans has pretty much been like this. Ever since, I have added them to my closet I have worn them for every brunch, lunch, coffee, shopping, PR meeting you can think of. There's something magical about this color. It allows you to experiment with options and adds versatility to your everyday style. A basic T-Shirt or a fancy top...the look becomes a cracker and cannot be classified as the regular 'Jeans and T-shirt.' Yes, I am in love!
That's the case with this outfit. Mint jeans paired with coral and some basic accessories, qualified for an outfit post. Plus, after some frequent "Do you really wear what you blog? As in IN REAL?" encounters, I felt my blog deserved a regular 'Jeans and T-Shirt' post (Still, I might not go that regular...Jeans and T-Shirt hasn't really been my cup of tea ...EVER!! Head here and here).
If you have been following me for a while now, you perhaps would have noticed that I tend to gravitate towards contrasts. However, I wanted to keep this outfit very statement. Thus, I added a match-y statement neck-piece for some texture amidst all the coral and mint and finished off the look with nude peep-toes.
As far as mint goes (after this), though we are at the threshold of Fall 2012, I feel my MINT obsession is going to last. Trends, fashion cycles and colors?? I'll find a way beyond the regular :)
