The Person A Watch Makes Me

When it comes to identifying and understanding this broad term called fashion, I have always maintained that fashion and style are a reflection of you. It is your beliefs, ideologies, the discussions you have amongst your friends, your choice of music and art, the books you read and what lessons of life you've imbibed from your parents, teachers and family - for me fashion sensibilities are a product of the above. One of the very early lessons in dressing that I was taught and live by is the importance of wearing a watch. I've grown up seeing my parents keeping their respective watches in that anchored space of the cabinet. When my sister and I were kids, whenever my dad used to travel one of the most precious components of his gifts bandwagon used to be a watch for my sister and me. I remember my dad getting this limited edition Swatch watch for my sister, which incidentally broke one day at school. Needless to say it made my sister extremely upset and adding to her dismay was the fact that no possible store in India could fix it. Years (and yes I mean years) later my parents 'discovered' someone who managed to fix it. Yet again, needless to say by then we were a little old to wear it.

For me a watch signifies your take on life. It makes you feel more in control of the uncontrollable and acts as a reminder that those bullet needles cannot beat you. A watch is your constant benchmark, teaching you discipline like no other. And strongly said not wearing one, unless the occasion demands you skip, is a turn off.

A few weeks back I received this elegant Classic Trinity Lady in rose gold from Daniel Wellington. Without a second thought, I knew that when it came to styling it will be all about the person a watch makes me. I hope you like the post.

Don't forget to share your stories with me in the comments section below or tweet/Instagram them to me. Also, if you haven't heard and see it around as yet I am happy to share that TrimmingsAndLace is amongst the selected few enjoying an exclusive access to the newly introduced #ViberPublicChats feature. The event was all the more special for me because I was hosting the same as the official stylist and fashion adviser for Max. Being in a virtual space, we bloggers get limited chances to interact with our readers and all those who make our work what it is. Being an event which captured my facets of fashion, style and photography, it undoubtedly grabbed a lot of audience. This gave me an opportunity to indulgence in an overwhelming experience to meet and interact with some of you. Thank you to all those who came and spared time. I hope to bump into our selfies someday. Thank you to all those you gave in such meaningful suggestions about my work. I hope to stand up to those. Spring, Prints and Getting Lucky

An overload of pictures explain my happiness of returning with an outfit post. It indeed has been long (remember this). The past two months were a crazy roller-coaster to say the least, albeit the most memorable two months of my life. If you are on my Instagram, you might know but for those who aren't, my sister's wedding last month accounted for all this craziness and the missing posts ofcourse! So, what goes into making a typical Indian wedding...well you got to stay tuned for it!
Spring finally is showing colours in this part of the world, after a string of rainy days. Across fashion circuits, spring undoubtedly is the most loved season. For me it signifies happy dressing. Stockings, bare legs, dresses, blazers, light cardigans all seem to fit the bill. Its the vibe of the weather which makes even the monotone outfits bright and cheery. In this case, the orange satchel did the trick too. Much like crop-tops, my love for black and white too has been on a rise. With this outfit, I kept the overall contrast to a minimum retaining the satchel as the statement piece. A special mention to these velvet pumps which I bought sometime in December at a steal price. Ain't you just lucky when you find heels you can literally run in. Gold accessories and my new-found love for nude lips finished my look. What are you loving this March? Tweet and share with me - @TrimmingsNdLace.

The Quirkviduality Duo

As a stylist, Autumn/Winter is my favourite time of the year. It’s the time when you can safely detach your fashion ideas from the conventional. You can throw on a scarf to brighten up the monotones and play around with colours and contrasts like never before. Against the dim sun cheerful prints help brave the cold, much like the vibrant plaids and tartans.
Talking of prints, fashion has forever been revolutionizing prints. I have never doubted the power of a print – be that florals, abstract, whacky, geometric or animal prints. However, post this I have never been surer of the power of a kitsch piece to make a statement like no other. THIS thanks to the pioneer of functional art in India – The Quirk Box. The Quirk Box products besides being fun, colourful, entertaining and a show-door to anything and everything mundane, are inspiring. They draw out a different perception, sometimes subjective, but always let the quirkviduality shine. Case in point this dream circus boyfriend jacket. Initially, my styling ideas were up against the wall with this jacket, but once worn all pieces came together and this statement jacket was ready to shine on.
A cropped top lends a wonderful balance to the boyfriend jacket, while keeping the femininity of the look intact. My infatuation with crop tops over seasons has grown by the day. Bra tops, crop tees, ruffled bandeaus' or corsets, this is one trend and I vouch for self, is not going to be ditched anytime soon. Statement earrings and some arm candy in neutral tones were my accessories of choice to enhance the look without diluting the glory of our center-piece!

Do-It-Yourself : Two For An Experiment

I have always believed that if you are looking for fashion inspiration or any item that keeps you in sync with whats in trend, your haven is your own closet (or your mom's). While I was in progress of a closet shift and re-shift, thanks to the erratic weather up north, not only did I realize that soon the fashion world would be greeting bye to OXBLOOD (Yes in capitals), but I also saw 'something' hanging in there which had always been there and I had simply been oblivion to it. The 'something' in question was an oxblood lace salwar kameez, which hadn't really seen the light of the day in long. A little but bright in.my.head bulb just lit that very minute. Step 2 - Heading to the local tailor (How I crave to use the term darzi), getting the side slits sewed and length altered and here you have it - this oxblood lace dress! Isn't this one a quick D.I.Y and an interesting revamp/reform/recycle for your wardrobe? What do you think?
In addition to the trends I have (yes its winters still) been loving this Fall/Winter, I also adore how oxblood and wine stand together. The whole there and not there (contrast) vibe of these two colours helps you play with the textures. That's the reason why I chose to keep this look going in a one-tone palette. Also, for some one who loves her contrasts this was something new and experimental. Perhaps two for this post! Yes, tell me about it...

Sunkissed : Fig and Navy

The deal with me is that when I go shopping the halo of picking a particular trend or a particular colour floats very bleakly on me. I know this can label me a little unprofessional or careless considering what I do, but more often than not this judgement leaves me happily surprised. That is because I get to savoir a "I picked what's in trend" moment. Case in point these fig jeggings. I went shopping to pick up the much popular and rather common red or hot pink pair. Absence of my size and presence of I.have.to.get.one.today attitude, stumbled me upon this pair. I wasn't happy with my purchase until I skimmed a few fashion magazines to realize that this lush blend of salmon, pastel rose and rich pink was one of 'the colours' for spring. And before you know it...the happy halo was back and bright!! Next on agenda, a semi-professional meeting and an I.have.to.wear.these.today.come.what.may attitude. Hence, a navy teaming and the structured blazer. A subtle stack-up and a floral scarf helped me sober the heaviness the blazer brought to the look. And off I was...

So, what are your views on the look? Also, how do you turn up the chic element of your professional wear??
