Besides the sempiternal nine yards, another Indian silhouette with an endless appeal is the quintessential Kurta. The Kurta or the Kurti as a piece of clothing has constantly re-invented itself and evolved in order to keep pace with the changing demands of the fashion forward world. Humble beginnings saw the very basic Kurti being paired with salwars/churidaars and dupattas. As lifestyles became more demanding, we proudly relaxed ourselves in the comfort of our jeans/trousers paired with the Kurti, ditching the dupatta. And now, this piece soars as breezy cotton dresses and the super women cape alike (and also like). Not to miss, how it holds its grace when worn as a beach cover-up.

I was instantly drawn to the delicate garden print on this Kurta by W (this one’s not from their latest collection) as it exhibited my never ending love for all things tropical, the idea defined as luscious banana prints and fashion presented amidst oneiric gardens. Sticking to the theme, I styled the Kurta as a cape making the whites and greens pop invariably. Likewise, while shooting our efforts were towards staying true to the whole concept of minimal tropic. Although this look would sit perfectly for a day at the beach, to put it humbly, this was the best we managed at Chandigarh. Thank God for no-beach hair though!

What do you think of this look? Do stop over my Instagram and Snapchat handle (@TrimmingsAndLace) to let me know. Also, I hope liked the latest video and subscribed to my channel. If you haven’t already, time to show some love people!

TrimmingsAndLace For VAPH : Resurrection of Sorts

 photo 0K6A8920.jpg photo 0K6A8951.jpg photo 0K6A8943.jpg photo 0K6A8855.jpg photo 0K6A8937.jpg photo 0K6A8975.jpg photo 0K6A8956.jpg photo 0K6A8857.jpg photo 0K6A8899.jpg photo 0K6A8980.jpg

For me the beauty of fashion lies, broadly, across two lengths - one being the utilitarian aspect of it and the other being the constant resurrection of the wardrobe staples. The same comes up with my second fashion feature story with VAPH.. Much like my maiden love with the Isabella Loafers, these Andrea (Salmon) sneakers instantly called out to me. Besides the gorgeousness in design and the finesse in skill, what really stood out for me on the day of the shoot was the comfort factor that came in with these shoes. The shoot literally had us walking endlessly from one end to the other in search of the sun, it had us running, jumping and skidding away to get a perfect shot, but this loyal pair didn't cringe a bit.

Taking inspiration from the fashion divas across the globe, I paired these on-trend-point sneakers with overalls sourced from Stalk Buy Love that lent a hipster vibe to the look, while the classic red lips and them sunglasses bought in the glamourous charm of the 70s. If you are a 90s kid, you definitely would remember having a love-hate relationship with the overalls. They either were your go-to wardrobe piece when you wished to dress up like the Rachel Greens of the world or there were times when they remained confined to the zones of farmers and toddlers. Irrespective of the sides you were on, the good news coming from the fashion radar is that this perfect hybrid of a comfortable pair of trousers and an uber glamourous jumpsuit has had a glorious comeback. Further, I decided to keep the other elements of the look minimal and added some statement jewellery pieces and this fringe bag for effect.

In a very long time perhaps, penning a post (again) seemed liked a challenge. With the exploding real-time bomb a.k.a the social media you already know about the Spring/Summer'16 trends, must-haves, dos and don'ts. Is there any particular trend this outfit conveys? Lace, crop-tops, culottes...you get the clue. Should I talk about life post marriage? Do readers really have time for it? Should I create a 'virtual' zone for my wedding festivities? Or should I tell you about the projects I am flooded with with or how stressful March endings are supposed to be with all the tax returns. Should I interest you with projects in the pipeline or with selfies at the fashion week. Maybe, I can do a house-tour and delusion you guys with the fanciness of a blogger life. I can pitch in my wedding outfits, venues and jewellery too. Do I sound cynical?  Does the blogger life seem much of a fad? Maybe you can join me on Snapchat (@TrimmingsNdLace) to have a glimpse of mine. Subtle Marketing. Or maybe for now, we can just hope for India to beat Australia in Cricket tomorrow.

TrimmingsAndLace For Vajor : Focused Bohemians

My final take (first, second) on the series of work-wear from Vajor has been to style a look for the freelancer in you reflecting an un-curbed, undisturbed creative personality. I chose to keep this look a little edgy and androgynously sexy. The pieces in this collection are designed in relaxed and breezy fabrics and are a blend of some gorgeous earthy tones. With sharp cuts and a tailored appeal, these pieces can take you throughout the day and do not demand any specific accessorizing or detailed styling. On viewing the collection, I could label it belonging to the ‘focused bohemians’.To do justice to the same, I styled my favourite pieces from the collection and finished the look with one contrast element, which I felt pulled the look together without swaying away from the genre.

TrimmingsAndLace For The Quirk Box : Long Gone

They say life is a better bucket to be in when you focus only on the CANs instead of the CANNOTs. Most often than not, I end up believing that the many platonic principals of life hold true for the world of art, fashion and style. The doer is the creator, risk converts into rewards, success out-steps comfort – are all statements celebrating those who can and those who do. And two individuals and their brand that have come to be associated with this fundamental and are today deeply respected in the industry are – Rixi and Jayesh from The Quirk Box.

For me personally, Rixi and Jayesh are mentors because at the very start of my blogging career, they gave me an opportunity to style for them by medium of my blog. Which is why, when this project came along it was a chance to acknowledge our association and maybe trace how far we’ve come.

The Quirk Box, as a brand has timelessly been amusing its audience with their new, kitsch and originally quirky designs. The collections and the very perspective behind them have always been enchanting and encapsulating, especially for those who are looking for new dimensions and layers in their personal style.
The very concept of the post was constructed around the era of the 50’s when the Hitchcock movies, Grace Kelly and his later muse Tippi Hedren ruled the roost. We attempted to project certain longingness and wait for the bygone lover, something which I instinctively connected with the print and silhouette of the entire outfit. Further, we tried to induce elements of mystery and suspense associated with incomplete words and unfinished letters.

For a more modern and everyday appeal, I bet these pieces will look as good on their own as they will when paired together. Top it up with a bright blazer or add nuances of colour like me, I am sure these pieces will be conversation starters and each of you will have an interesting story or a fascinating concept to explore. However, go easy on the accessories and let the print be the focal of your entire look.
I hope you enjoyed the look and the creative behind it. Don’t forget to join me on YouTube and give my maiden video a thumbs up. Also, stay tuned for an exciting Instagram giveaway.

Lifestyle #InstaLife - The Yellow Life

Spring marks an enthralling transformation in the life of the living beings and in the many processes of life. The gloomy days of the winters begin to fade in memories, the frozen earth sprungs new buds in anticipation of growth and brightness and the senses of sight, sound and smell rejoice in absolute harmony. As the living beings delight in resurrection, quickened sensibilities and youthfulness, the fashion world opens new reins to colours and prints. Like fashion and style trends, the glamour of spring remains unchanged. But it seems to have found a lasting companion in colours, textures, prints, cuts and Instagram. In March, I associated with Lifestyle International to showcase their Spring/Summer'15 collection which celebrates the energy, zeal, passion and immense talent hosted by individuals across varied fields and how dynamic is their #InstaLife. True to idea, the Spring/Summer collection at Lifestyle is an amazing conglomerate of trends and fashion moments. From florals to stripes, from fringes to laces, from yellows to summer whites, from military to denim, from crop tops to culottes, the list seems endless. But if you are someone who wishes to be bang on trend without burning the pocket, this collection is surely a haven for you.

For this styling project, I stuck to the books and trend reports and picked up pieces in yellow, a pair of denim culottes, a basic white lace dress and an Aztec print blazer (here). For this very look, I decided to keep the whole look very minimal and carefree and paired this lace crop top with a pair of culottes. The day started with clear skies but quite unlike my idea of spring, it suddenly changed into one downpour of sorts. Which is why, unlike last time, I decided to keep it relaxed in brogues with my messy, wind affected and half wet hair as company. But isn't doing it 'now' and capturing the real time is what #InstaLife holds for? To finish the look and still keep it a little dressy, I added a contrast by these purple statement drops.

Though, our shoot was a pack-up in 15 minutes, I am thrilled with the job done by Saajan (@sajanaroraphotography) and Ravit (@ravkdesigns) on the pictures. Don't forget to stop by their work and show some love. I hope you enjoyed the post and my experience of it all!
