TrimmingsAndLace For Nautica : Where Summer Never Ends

A fashion genre that aptly gets described by a set of three colours that predominantly constitutes it is - Nautical. The geometric precision of stripes, checks and dots combined in a trio of whites, blues and reds, transcends you to the deep seas and to waters and lands where summer never ends. The emotions in the life of a sailor, the stories of valor, celebrations and adventures, the nostalgia of the sea is something an institution like Nautica lives up to. Their philosophy manifests itself in everything -  from their collections to their store décor. Which is why, when I was asked to style their S/S'15 collection as part of the #MyNautica campaign, it was a sentiment in itself. Confirming to it's very ideology, the collection is a vibrant mix of colours in polos and the quintessential stripes in tanks, maxis and dresses. What I personally loved in this collection was the experimentation in techniques and the overall modular appeal of the garment (Loved this and this). The collection confirms to the Nautica aesthetics of precision and uniformity in tailoring, while keeping the comfort factor intact. 

For this look, I decided to romance the summer whites and added a vertical and horizontal contrast of stripes by way of the tank and the shirt. I added a tinge of red to the look via my lips and hair. Moschino-esque heavy metal and a textural contrast via the bag, I managed to pacify my longingness for the sea. Well, clothes are always a solution. Let's drink to that sailors!

When it comes to identifying and understanding this broad term called fashion, I have always maintained that fashion and style are a reflection of you. It is your beliefs, ideologies, the discussions you have amongst your friends, your choice of music and art, the books you read and what lessons of life you've imbibed from your parents, teachers and family - for me fashion sensibilities are a product of the above. One of the very early lessons in dressing that I was taught and live by is the importance of wearing a watch. I've grown up seeing my parents keeping their respective watches in that anchored space of the cabinet. When my sister and I were kids, whenever my dad used to travel one of the most precious components of his gifts bandwagon used to be a watch for my sister and me. I remember my dad getting this limited edition Swatch watch for my sister, which incidentally broke one day at school. Needless to say it made my sister extremely upset and adding to her dismay was the fact that no possible store in India could fix it. Years (and yes I mean years) later my parents 'discovered' someone who managed to fix it. Yet again, needless to say by then we were a little old to wear it. 

For me a watch signifies your take on life. It makes you feel more in control of the uncontrollable and acts as a reminder that those bullet needles cannot beat you. A watch is your constant benchmark, teaching you discipline like no other. And strongly said not wearing one, unless the occasion demands you skip, is a turn off.

A few weeks back I received this elegant Classic Trinity Lady in rose gold from Daniel Wellington. Without a second thought, I knew that when it came to styling it will be all about the person a watch makes me. I hope you like the post.

TrimmingsAndLace : Pep-Up Your Everyday Outfit

I have confessed this before that a regular T-Shirt and jeans hardly becomes my outfit of choice. No, that doesn't mean that I am always dressed up in dresses and skirts. Infact, like many of you, I too believe and swear by the effortlessness and uber comfort of that 'favourite' pair of jeans (and sometimes that old, like really really old, T-Shirt). But still, I always try and add one such element that enhances the look and feel of this basic attire. Be that a semi-formal meeting, quick run-down errands or a last minute date plan, I have realized or rather identified these elements from my wardrobe that can pep up my jeans T-Shirt/top look in an instant. My list might vary from yours but I largely believe that we all have this list. Read below and let me know!

With great respect, all fashion forwards know I cannot talk them through it. I am late! Patterns and prints have always been the fashion world favourites, but Spring '13 saw the rise and glide of stripes to take over the former domain by storm. From luxury brands like Etro, Michael Kors, Oscar De La Renta and Marc Jacobs to high-streets like ZARA (love) and Tommy Hilfiger, there has been no stopping this trend. I picked up this shirt way back in March and since then have worn it with colour, prints and denim alike. That's until I decided to settle with the classics (much like this) for a meeting. That's the thing about stripes I believe. You do them in colour or in monotones, during the day or the night, they are enough to keep the 'geometric glamour' intact. Not to forget, the lovely slimming effect they add when worn vertically.

The undisputed reality of life is that - who we are and who we become is a product of the choices we make in life. A choice can be an outcome of fate or circumstance. Some of these choices are easy and some are hard, some leave us feeling exuberant while others leave us in despair. Some are new beginnings ushering greater love and happiness while others are chapters that come to a close. Whatever it may be, the choices we make have the power to free us from or exile us to the hallows of regret. I feel that, regret is the darkest feeling a human can live with. Hence, even if that choice was obvious and the right one or the hardest to be made, we must do so believing that after some years, we’ll be able to look back at that juncture in our life as a stronger, regret-free person who made the choices then, that he/she is proud of today. 

I recently learned (rather re-learned) this very valuable fact of life. And the outfit closely reflects that. You needn’t always chose between the obvious and the predicted. Likewise, T-Shirts needn’t always be reserved for jeans and, sequins needn’t always be reserved for that ‘fancy’ glamorous occasions. There is room and the choice where both can co-exist.
