The Pinks You Cannot Miss

 photo _MG_4358.jpg photo _MG_4372.jpg photo _MG_4432.jpg photo _MG_4377.jpg photo _MG_4364.jpg

Love it or hate it, but you cannot escape it - All pretty things do come in pink and all the Valentine hum drum involves pink, and a lot of it. But beyond the pretty and the mushy, for me pink affiliates with strength and empowerment as well (and much more).

With February unremarkably being the month of love (and all the branding that has gone into making it one), I felt it right to share with you my all time favourite pinks. I wouldn't label all of them as classics, however, being personal favourites I'll certainly recommend splurging on them.

Here's my list -

1. Chance by Chanel
2. Miss Dior by Christian Dior
3. Dream of Pink by Lacoste - Sadly discontinued. Hence, I savour every drop of mine!
4. Chatterbox by M.A.C - Works better as a blush. Trust me!
5. Breathing Fire by M.A.C

Before We Say Pleats Please

 photo IMG_2669.jpg photo IMG_2671.jpg photo IMG_2701.jpg photo IMG_2672.jpg photo IMG_2677.jpg photo IMG_2663.jpg photo IMG_2668.jpg photo IMG_2662.jpg photo IMG_2659.jpg photo IMG_2703.jpg photo IMG_2643.jpg photo IMG_2642.jpg

You are late to the party if I have to tell you that pleats were The trend last spring/summer and the fashion circuit is going puppy eyed for them this season as well. Knife, accordion or superfine crystal pleats, this precise, fabric creasing technique takes on a sophistication that goes beyond that of plaid, school uniforms. Besides the drama when in motion and with the right hints of metallic and shine, pleats create a perfect balance of sexiness and reserve. With Issey Miyake capturing imaginations with this revolutionary label Pleats Please and bringing them back into the spotlight, this technique has progressed from the boutique curated gowns and dresses to the more wearable, accessible and affordable wardrobe staples. Pleats are a great way of fashionably hiding yourself (imagine a wide, legged palazzo pant) or being your boldest, avant-garde self (imagine an architecturally  structured top). Not to mention, their ability to elevate even the blah of outfits. Hence, the outfit.

Metallic skirts have made quite a dent with some of the leading high street fashion houses and hence into the fashion conscious wardrobes. Pair them with a cool, graphic t-shirt or go edgy like me, they work their way to spruce the very basics. And, if pleats aren't your thing (really?) but metallics are, you might want to check out this for some SOS. As for me, there's no not loving them  - not now, not then

Do-It-Yourself : Tasseled Sandals

 photo Collage 2.jpg

Tassels and fringes are pretty much regarded as the trend of the 70s, but making a glorious appearance on shoes this Spring/Summer'16 made them absolutely delectable. Laced up to the mid-calf, sitting pretty on ankle straps, platformed, wedged or stilettoed, fringes and tassels add a striking dynamism to the entire look. I've personally loved the infamous Aquazzura Wild Thing Sandals and did pick up similar ones from Daisy Street (here). But if you're wanting to embrace the trend without burning a hole in your pocket and unlike other DIYs existing on the web, don't want to shelve and cut paste your existing pair of sandals, this tutorial might be of help. So, let's get started!

You'll need:

1. A classic pair of sandals. Try picking a pair which is simple and minimalistic in virtue. If you have a pair that fastens on the ankles, its a bonus!
2. Tassels in the colour of your choice. These are easily available at all craft stores.
3. Suede, faux leather strings. Avoid using ribbons because they tend to slide and don't really hold on the legs.
4. Tape.
5. A pair of scissors.
6. A straightening iron (optional).

Steps:

1. I started by trimming and refining the ends of the tassels to make them look neater and even.
2. Next, I used a straightening iron to smoothen any wavy and wiggly threads and strands.
3. This step is optional. I secured the loop of the tassels with a tape to make it smaller so that it doesn't move around, once slipped through the suede strings.
4. Weave the strings through the straps of your sandals. Pretty much like this.
5. Finally, just when you are about to knot the strings slip in your tassels and secure them between the strings.

Though I admit that the outcome can't match the grace of the original, but I still feel that revamping your sandals once in a while can be a fun activity and an interesting change. What do you think?

Diwali As The Bride

 photo L.jpg photo IMG_8791 - 1.jpg photo IMG_8742.jpg photo IMG_8788.jpg photo T.jpg photo IMG_8833.jpg photo IMG_8787 - 1.jpg photo M.jpg photo IMG_8829.jpg photo IMG_8783.jpg photo IMG_8756.jpg

Among the many moments in life, when adrenaline rush thrives and the monotony of life comprises itself in a time frame ever so characteristic and dynamic, is the "festive season". If you've been a regular reader of my blog (or an occasional one around this time of the year), you aren't stranger to my indescribable love for the festive season. Maybe it is because of the faint celebratory sounds that make way through the quietness of the night or it is the unison with which the roads gets jam packed, sweet shops get flooded with people or the sight of your city beaming in a sea of lights. Or so because, I believe that October Speaks To Me.

From much awaited get-togethers with family to endless conversations till the wee hours of the morning. From card parties with friends to all those exciting food menus. From the absolutely necessary shopping trips to planning for all the upcoming shaadis. The festive season is a bountiful of moments, occasions and celebrations All Brought Together.

For two years now, I've made it my tradition to share with you all my ideas on festive dressing. Much like our lives, our sartorial choices also pace and evolve. Though, each year I have tried to very practical and realistic when it comes to my choices but this year I am all prepared to go unabashed. This festive year is rather very special (and huge) for me because I get to spend it with my husband, my main man. So this, Once Upon A Princess is all set to head-out for the hustle, bustle and bang and cherish each moment of this beautiful gift of life in its complete glory. Join me?

TrimmingsAndLace For Himalaya : The Orange Peel-off Mask

 photo _MG_2335.jpg photo _MG_2359.jpg photo _MG_2358.jpg photo _MG_2368.jpg

The summer heat might be bidding us a fast farewell, but it does leave behind bitter sweet traces of tan on the skin which are hard to get rid off. The summers and the holiday season must have been the time when you loved this tan and made up for quite a show off, but come festive season I bet you want to look your radiant and glowing best. Well, we are in luck because Himalaya recently launched their Tan Removal Orange Peel-off Mask, and you'll be over the moon that they did. My earliest memory of a peel-off mask is that of my mother using one regularly, and now if you follow me on Snapchat and Instagram you would know that I am a mask lover myself. Hence, when I was given this opportunity to try out this product while it was in its pre-launch stage, no surprises I couldn't refuse.

The Himalaya Tan Removal Orange Peel-off Mask, is an effective blend of natural ingredients like Orange peel and honey, known for their skin lightening and brightening properties. Orange peel, through its peeling action, helps control melanin synthesis aiding in removing tan and lightening the skin tone, while honey helps in soothing, moisturizing and hydrating the skin. The Orange peel extracts also act as a natural cleanser for the skin, help eliminate excess oil and render a more even-tone texture to the skin, Likewise, honey contains superior antibacterial, probiotic and healing properties and is extremely beneficial in nourishing the skin for that healthy, youthful glow.

HOW TO USE -

Apply the mask on cleansed skin avoiding the skin around your eyes. The mask is similar to a gel in consistency and hence glides smoothly. Allow the mask to dry for 10-15 minutes. Once done, gently peel off the mask from the skin. I do recommend doing a patch test before you apply the mask on your skin, because the mask did break me out where I am most susceptible to acne. Since then, I've avoided using it on that area in particular and am quite happy with the results on the rest of my skin. I do use it twice a week, and can reckon that it fairly does what it claims.

I hope this was helpful and made you less stressed about looking your best this festive season. Don't forget to let me know!

TrimmingsAndLace : My 6 Must-Have Foundations

 photo _MG_0096_1.jpg photo _MG_0103_1.jpg photo 2016-06-22.jpg photo _MG_0197_1.jpg photo _MG_0129.jpg photo _MG_0119.jpg

For the longest time ever I have believed and accepted on the blog, that my make-up knowledge is a result of tests and trials and much of it had been borrowed. It took me quiet a while to come up with this post and to claim that this piece of writing comes out of experience. My own wedding and my real sister's, probably two optimum occasions for me to "experiment". None the less, being a regular in my make-up bag for over three years now, with an increased rate of application, I can affirm that my views can be borrowed. Without much delay, let us begin!

Disclaimer - I won't be delving into the different skin type details, because these are formulas that work best for my skin. I have a combination skin and I am typically oily around my T-zone. My skin is also very sensitive, is prone to acne and isn't blemish free.

M.A.C Face and Body (I'm in the shade - N1)

This product has been my maiden major make-up buy. M.A.C Face and Body has been a timeless, patented classic and a must-have for all prominent make-up artists. It took me about two empty bottles to finally purchase the shade that suits me right. Since the foundation is water based, it is a little runny but is quite hydrating on the skin. It provides a light to medium coverage, which can be built depending upon your preference. As M.A.C claims, it is meant to provide a natural, even and a luminous appearance to your skin and indeed does so. However, since it is a light-weight formula, it does little to conceal any under-eye patches or blemishes, but smoothens the skin to impart a healthy glow. Because of the very same, when I do wear make-up I do not reach out for this product because I do want to conceal my problem areas. Which is why, I largely use it on my legs and arms especially when I am filming videos. What I absolutely love about this product is the fact that it is super long-lasting and doesn't come off on the clothes at all. This is a major sell-out for me, and hence a part of my must-have!

M.A.C Studio Fix Foundation (I'm in the shade - NC 20)

If I have to qualify and put something in the "Can't do without" bracket, this product would be it. I absolutely love it. I am very minimal when it comes to make-up, and my everyday work make-up (excluding shoots, events and important meetings) simply involves a swipe of this wonder product. To begin with, M.A.C Studio Fix is an amazing combination of both a foundation as well as a powder. It is highly refined in texture which is why it is almost unnoticeable on the skin, leaving enough room for the skin to breathe. It imparts a velvety feel to the skin, gives a matte finish and is amazingly long-lasting. The foundation can definitely be built up, but if you are someone who prefers a full coverage, I would suggest that you use it on top of your regular liquid foundation. I resort to this step only when I am shooting and it works perfectly for touch-ups as well. If you are a make-up beginner, this product is a must-buy simply because its an all-in-one kinda thing!

M.A.C Mineralize SkinFinish Natural (I'm in the shade - MEDIUM)

I picked up this product, before my wedding, while I was on a look-out for a setting powder and boy do I love it or what! M.A.C Mineralize SkinFinish Natural is a range of baked, mineral pressed powders largely meant to be used as a setting agent for your make-up. True to its claims, it works perfectly. More so because, it feels so light, breathable and natural on the skin. This product has been my perfect bet during the rainy, humid weather as it works brilliantly to control oil and saves you from that oily sheen. Basis the same, you do have an option to use it simply over your regular moisturizer, however, the product being sheer in texture it won't impart any coverage of sorts. It shall simply help in making your skin look smooth, semi-matte and dimensional. Its main role is that of a setting powder and it does so wonderfully. So much so, I have to admit that I feel incomplete without it. I use it over my SPF, over all the products mentioned in this post and for any touch-ups during the day. I think I've made my point!

CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua (I'm in the shade - 20 Beige)

I could actually find myself gushing at the thought of CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua because it is magical. It is smooth, has an ultra fine texture and sits perfectly on the skin. It lends a very dewy, healthy from within, fresh rosy glow to the skin which for me is the perfect rendition of the French skin. It smells divine and an absolute sell-out for me is that it has an SPF of 15. This ones again a water based formula and requires a good shake before you use it. For me it works best when applied with fingers. Claimed to provide light to medium coverage, for me personally, it works as a full coverage formula concealing blemishes and/or other problem areas. Because of its refined texture, this foundation also is light reflective and hence works perfectly for occasions where you are likely to be photographed. An added bonus in that scenario is that it is extremely long-lasting. However, it does transfer on to clothes which is why setting it with a powder becomes necessary.

Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Creme (I'm in the shade - 32 Beige Clair Light Beige)

So, if you are following me on Snapchat you'll be familiar with me reviewing products and/or giving a break-down of my make-up looks. I happened to review the Bourjois CC Creme last year, and my first words were that this product is the budget friendly version of CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua. I picked up this product primarily because Lisa Eldridge had raved so much about it on her channel. Also, because I was on a look-out for a more "everyday" product and keep aside my premium buys for special occasions alone. As the name suggests, this product is a combination of colour correcting pigments and a moisturizing creme. I was in denial of the whole colour correction fad and the whole idea of a green, red or an orange product targeted towards different skin concerns. However, after using this product I can second that it does something to address these concerns. Is that the coloured pigments or the basic formula in itself, but yes it does work. With an SPF of 15, for me this product works as a second layer of hydration and protection on the skin. It provides a light, sheer coverage and adds a healthy glow and luminosity to the skin. For me, its best applied with fingers and with a swish of M.A.C's SkinFinish I'm good to go. If someone was to ask me what is my everyday make-up routine, majorly, it would be these two products used together. If you suffer from acne, the green pigments work perfectly to conceal any redness. I also have a feeling that when I use it on top of any angry pimple, it helps reduce the inflammation as well. Lastly, for its price it definitely is a grab!

Make-Up Forever HD Foundation (I'm in the shade - N125)

Once again, I picked up this product after seeing Lisa Eldridge's videos that seconded the claim that the product has been designed for the more extreme details of today's ultra high definition technology. Since, I had decided to do my own make-up for all minor wedding functions of mine, plus I had a professional need as well, to put it straight I had to buy it. And once again, totally worth the spurge. This foundation is an oil-free, SPF free formula and is nearly invisible to the HD cameras and the naked eye alike. It provides a medium to full range coverage, rendering a very even, smooth and radiant canvas to the skin. However, it sets a little too early on the skin so you need to be quick and work your way around it. Also, it oxidizes after a couple of hours and on me gives a very sun-kissed, tanned kinda look which works brilliantly (If I may say so) in photographs. Because this foundation sets so well, the need of a setting powder is marginally reduced. I do like to brush it over my T-zone though. The product is a little on the costlier side, but a little goes a long way which makes it totally worth the amount spent. So, if you are a bride-to-be or in a profession that requires you to be in front of the camera, Make-Up Forever HD Foundation is an absolute holy grail.

Would just like to quickly add in here that none of these products broke me out or caused any kind of irritation to the skin. So if these are your concerns in any way, be rest assured. I hope this post was helpful and would love to know your views on the same!

And We're Married

Having rested in the drafts for close to six months, call it instinct or procrastination, I never felt it was the right time to publish this post. This video was shot within the pages of a test-run, the concept I wanted to structure it around came in much later. But somehow it couldn’t see the light of the day. Until, having lived that concept now, the eve of my anniversary (six months) seemed just the right moment to share this. This video and the following words are my attempt at sharing the structural and platonic shift that accompanied me after getting married and moving to a new place (Typing the post's title took me back to my first post and was enough to give me goosebumps). Maybe, I do a good job at it!

Dwelling back in time, my husband and I were batch-mates in school, started dating while we were in college, dated for about nine years and finally got married. I feel, my words about getting married and the hum drum that accompanies an Indian wedding will be mere drops in an ocean of all that wed talk, so I’ll safely jump to the life that starts post-marriage, which, contrary to popular belief isn’t all about lots of sex or snuggling up for movies.

Getting married introduces a couple to many challenges, which in a subtle way can be life altering and also pushing enough for you to explore and dive into all those innate, subconscious life lessons your parents and your story-so-far gave you. I am lucky to have married someone I knew so closely, which is why sharing an emotional or physical space came easy. There wasn’t any (as it might be called) adjustments involved. We know and understand each other’s professional demands, schedules, habits – eating and living alike, so yes it did come in easy. In the present world, the moment we begin to speak about managing a house, conversations are quick to boil over the whole idea of working women empowerment, independence, the equality in partnership theory and the like, and yes bearing that onus and responsibility can be overwhelming at first. I did have a feeling or rather the belief (which girls these days consider as cool) that I don’t know anything. But once again, thanks to my mum who managed both her professional life and her home so perfectly and thanks to a lifetime of lessons absorbed observing her and yes thanks to our helpers (they deserve so much credit), looking after our house, cooking, and doing its interiors (if you follow me on Snapchat, you know it’s my new found love) is something I fell in love with immediately. So, like I mentioned at the start…the challenges are of a happy kind!

However, if I can be completely honest, coping with the professional arena has been the hardest for me. I have been truly blessed to have my husband and my family, provide a support system that encourages me to go out, chase my dreams and be the sport when it comes to achieving them. However, moving to a new city and putting together and getting oneself accustomed to the resources has been a challenge for me. The people are new and so is their approach and method towards work. Shoot locations don’t come easily and it’s been difficult to churn quality content for brands. On the other side, this straight line curve has been a boon in helping me strategize and work on newer avenues, concepts and business models.

Any change in life is bound to cause a tectonic shift in our approach towards it. I do reckon that marriage is that “new phase” that’s often talked about and pondered upon by all of us. But this change is also that time in your life when you’ll mature as an individual, expand (or rather double) your capabilities, grow your horizons, multiply your ideas and have an undefined, subconscious desire to be better that what you were before. However, wherever this journey takes many of you and myself, let it most importantly be about love…because in the end that is and was all that really mattered!

TrimmingsAndLace 2.0

 photo _MG_1285.jpg photo _MG_1291.jpg photo _MG_1341.jpg photo _MG_1276.jpg photo _MG_1302.jpg photo _MG_1373.jpg photo _MG_1269.jpg photo _MG_1338.jpg photo _MG_1334.jpg photo _MG_1272.jpg

Dressing chic and staying stylish during winters can often seem like a job in hand. As temperatures get more and more frigid, the layers start to bulk up and you often feel more like a person wearing a marshmallow than a woman in her best garb. Black pants, same old sweater and that go-to coat, well yes it is easy to get stuck in a rut during winters when the weather is miserable. However, a look curated with the right pieces – the coats, furs, scarves, hats and jewellery – dressing up becomes incredibly easy. Hence, as we stepped into the last run of the winter season, this pet project with team Vajor had to come through.

Street style has become one of the most popularly accepted and recognized fashion genre. Unlike the VIP accessed fashion shows, street style is your runway to showcase your style for the masses to see and eventually adopt. It’s that wheel that has set many a trends rolling and has also been a forecast into the future. Needless, to say this livewire genre was our inspiration for this month’s fashion stories. For the same, I chose to style pieces which are classics in terms of colour and silhouette but are very modish when put together as a whole.

The first look comprised of a black maxi skirt paired with a quilted top. The zipper details on the top render an edginess to the overall look but I chose to mellow down the same, keeping the overall appeal very feminine by adding this vintage broach. This look not only makes for a perfect work-wear but also if your profession demands you to strut the city streets like a boss.

I am sure for most of you winter-dressing shall now seem a little less difficult. Afterall, when fashion, love and coffee comes together, why ought anything to be difficult.

TrimmingsAndLace For Fervour : Complexity Amidst Simplicity

 photo _AAS1489.jpg photo _AAS1536.jpg photo _AAS1541.jpg photo _AAS1462.jpg photo _AAS1552.jpg photo _AAS1553.jpg photo _AAS1451.jpg photo _AAS1492.jpg photo _AAS1490.jpg photo _AAS1471.jpg photo _AAS1460.jpg

In an environment where everything - from societies in general to industries in particular -  is a live-wire and is constantly evolving, the complexity is in the simplicity. Fashion as a genre is expanding exponentially and each day has a newer dimension to adopt and follow. The challenge herein remains to perfect the classic and better the simple. Something as timeless as a black and white outfit can have multiple layers when it comes to styling and representation. That basically was my challenge, when this gorgeously ruffled Dsquared2 blouse was sent to me by the wonderful team at Fervour. Fervour is a Bangalore based luxury house that shelves and retails a number of luxury brands - from Dsquared2 to Marc Jacobs, from Nina Ricci to Iceberg - all under one roof. For the longest time ever, the Indian connect with these luxury brands has rested in the hands of holiday travels and visiting relatives. Thankfully, with houses like Fervour, luxury indeed is at our doorsteps. Not to miss mentioning, all apparels and accessories retailed are one hundred percent originals.

On receiving this top, my reflex response was that how difficult can it be to style a white top. A printed skirt or a pair of shorts with a bright blazer, anything would work. But once I began playing with these ideas in my dressing room, I realized that the challenge herein lied in keeping the look simple and letting the structure and details of the blouse speak for themselves. Which is why, the entire concept of this post is positioned to reflect a play of textures than merely a styling endeavour. These sandals and cuff, I feel, added another dimension to the entire look and incorporated a sense of directional contrast to the look. Finally, not to let go colour completely, I added the mini Dsquared2 cross-body bag from Fervour again.
