TrimmingsAndLace For Swarovski : A Sparkle A Time

A woman and her love for jewellery can never really be summed up in words, let alone contained. From the time she watches her mother adorn her treasures to dreaming of dressing up in heirlooms. From the inherent consciousness of collecting and savouring her jewellery pieces to stopping at those large, inviting display windows...woman and her love for jewellery wasn't really meant to be put into words, let alone contained.

Earlier this month I collaborated with Swarovski to style a look for this party season. I have always been a huge fan and an admirer of Swarovski crystals and jewellery. The finesse with which a simple piece of glass is so beautifully maneuvered to create something this delicate, is a form of unmatched art and skill. To celebrate this association and the timeless Swarovski appeal, I knew I had to save this look for the last. When it came to my outfit, I went ahead with the classic bling. If you are someone who prefers a look that is comfortable, easy and an extention to your personal favourites, the best is to stick to the classics. Doing so, leaves room for experimentation in jewellery, accessories and make-up. And that's pretty much what I did with this look. You can wear these pieces on their own, layer them or mix them to create a balanced look. I am sure you'll agree when I say that they'll look beautiful and appealing in every way. To balance the modern silhouette of the dress and giving in to old world charm, I added elements like this faux fur cape (Gifted by my grandmother, but never worn. This is for her) and did my lips in classic red. For the eyes I tried the Hollywood glam winged-eye (similar).

Now for the good bit. I need no Swarovski, said no woman ever. This year has been so overwhelming for me, in more ways than one. I feel I can never thank any of you enough for the love and support you have given this little endeavour of mine. If you are the one who is a regular reader of my blog, the one who likes and comments regularly or the one who never does but also never fails to stop by, I express my sincerest gratitude. TrimmingsAndLace For MaxFashions : Didn't Loose The Lesson

Our everyday routine (minus Thursdays) usually gives us lesser opportunities for a throwback. But around this time of the year, it perhaps is very natural and somewhat inevitable to look back at the year gone by. We all tend to relive the highs and lows of our life, smile again at what made us smile and feel sad for what didn't go as wished. Life is a giver and gives us a clean slate over and over again to write and rewrite our story. The question remains how well we write ours with the lessons learnt from certain incidents of life. Here's a story board of mine. I hope there is something for you to takeaway as I reflect back on my 2014.

January - Learn. Learn everyday. Today be a person better than who you were yesterday. Feel gratitude to feel empowered. Admit your mistakes but never let your mistakes define who you are and who you can be. We as humans are bound to make them. Forgive yourself first and then those who hurt you.

February - Celebrate. Family. Friends. Love. Love so much that it consumes you. Never let go the people who love you. Don't chase those who never could because that is their weakness and not yours. Love and love more each day. It is the only thing that truly rewards you in life.

March - Take your work seriously. Fall in love with what you do. Do not work in quest for 'that life'. Work to learn and grow as a person. Work to grow stronger. Because you'll dream and when you dream it you do it.

April - Meet new people. Make new friends. Share your life. Imbibe their lessons. Love yourself for others to love you. Make time for your family and yourself. Give little but give back to the world. It needs it.

May - Do not let others set goals or benchmarks for you. Professionally, what others do, have done or are doing is their chapter. Don't waste your time and energy in making their chapter yours. And don't let others do it for you. Cut yourself from people who set standards for you. You are way too capable to do that in your own, individual way.

June - Travel. Travel for yourself. Travel to learn. Travel to strengthen your bond with your loved ones. Travel like there's no tomorrow. And, besides all the SPF drama a little sun never harmed anyone. Embrace nature at its hardest. It always does!

July - Have a pet. It is empowering to love someone who cannot demand like us. Make time for them. Love them unconditionally. That's a stronger version of prayer, trust me.

August - Believe. Believe in people who believe in you and appreciate them for it. In life, to tread a road less traveled is always the hardest. Many discourage you, many tell you, you cannot make it and how you don't have what it takes, many will refuse to work with you for you. Believe in that one who said yes.

September - Exercise. Eat Healthy. Don't compromise on this valuable asset. Cycle. Walk. Squat. Give that ass what it deserves!

October - Husbands, boyfriends, friends, colleagues, teammates...do not tolerate a man who doesn't respect you. Do not tolerate a man who lacks some serious linguistic control while talking to a woman. Do not allow them to judge you for what you do. How incapable and weak they are is defined by actions like these.

November - People judge you by your 'social count' and that is largely they know and want to know about you. Don't be or become one of them. Modesty surprises people. Be modest anyway.

December - Organize your schedules. Plan ahead. Make others feel special. Play with kids. Walk in the chill. Feel it on bare legs. Eat that junk. Dance at weddings. Love. Give love. Jealousy is an emotion. Accept jealously in people. They are cause they never can be you. Smile. Feel blessed.

As part of my collaboration with MaxFashions, this is the second look I styled for them. Currently, I am in love with pairing pullovers with skirts and over dresses. Well, this being till the weather allows us to bare a leg. We shot this look in freezing temperatures which perhaps is evident from my expressions. Well, isn't that a part of overcoming what challenges you?

I Believe In Pink

Audrey Hepburn probably said aloud a notion that's unconsciously and consciously existed in the world, atleast in the female part of it. "I believe in pink" - an expression that has been acknowledged, accepted and endorsed timelessly and how. I believe in pink because pink is delicate and symbolizes sweetness, playfulness, tenderness, cotton candies, bubble gums and babies. I believe in pink because its a universal colour of love - of oneself and of others. I believe in pink because it represents friendship, affection, compassion and contentment. But most importantly, I believe in pink because it symbolizes strength, patience, endurance, survival and victory. Embracing the winter sun and deeper berry hues, my outfit for this very post is a little tribute to the power of pink.

I am also very excited to be sharing this with my Chandigarh readers. The connoisseurs of luxury shopping experiences - The Pink Post-It are bringing together another fashion extravaganza for you all. Be a part of this dynamic event which introduces new designers, talent and a fashion and style finesse like no other. You can find them on Instagram as well - @thepinkpostit. Friday, the 21st at The Lalit Hotel from 11am to 8pm. I hope to see you there!

Wearing An Invisible Crown

It is always exciting to construct an outfit around one core element. When I did a dominant white look earlier this year, I wanted the crop-top to be the focus of the outfit, keeping the other details subtle and minimum. With this look too, I wanted these Burberry spring'14 inspired sandals to be the main element of the look. You may remember seeing me in a maxi version of this skirt, but while putting together this look I decided to head in for a little DIY and hence chopped it into a midi. To bring in a feminine and elegant vibe of the 60s, I accessorized in gold and added a cheerful headband. The latter an element of reminisce to self of my headband days, much before a certain Ms. Waldorf. Isn't this largely what life is meant to be? We must strive to recognize our strengths, work our best, alter and get twisted to stand tall with them. We must never let go off the beliefs that make us strong and make us who we are, our ideologies that make us shine. And yes...whatever be the adversity, always remember to wear our invisible crown!

Joining me with this post is the extremely talented Himanshu Sharma. I am a huge admirer of individuals who hold the courage to pursue their dreams and passions against the conventional. Kudos to Himanshu who chose to leave the luxuries of a corporate job in the US and settle back in India to pursue his penchant for photography. Make sure you stop by his work and show love!

Lifestyle #Styleplay - Smooth Transition

I won't be stating anything new or different when I say that certain specific colours and palettes have made a serious contribution when it comes to my personal dressing and the styling assignments I undertake. So much so, that these fashion ideals of mine have made a smooth exit from my wardrobe and have become symbolic to many emotions and pleasant episodes of my life. Hence last week, when I was asked to style for Lifestyle and play around the colour Indigo, I couldn't help but go overboard with joy and excitement. Indigo is the electric, androgynous and bold shade of navy and among the very rare shades that transcends beautifully into anything - fashion, art, architecture. Add it as a vital burst of colour into your outfit or allow it to shine uninterrupted, this shade makes a statement like no other. Being a ruler this year over the runways, there is just no excuse to not wear it. Its a colour one can indulge in effortlessly. A well tailored blazer or a pair of trousers are safe options to begin with. I am also always drawn towards a pair of cobalt heels because I believe they are a great statement piece. Irrespective of the degrees to which this colour appeals you, there is no denying that it is an absolute must-have for your wardrobe and mood.

Another great investment piece, which might tax your pocket a bit but is a game-changer when it comes to putting together your outfits is the glam churned biker/moto jacket. This number was the first piece that caught my attention at the Lifestyle store and I just knew that I had to have it. My first thoughts were to style it with the quintessential white summer dress or something that involves lace. However, being a dominant shade for Autumn/Winter'14, I decided to create a 'transition into fall' look and contrasted it with this deep berry dress. Biker jackets for me work best when complimented with soft, delicate details like lace and embellishments. Hence, the beaded neck-line of this dress provided the perfect base. I added another pop of colour via the pumps and finished the outfit with accessories that provide a subtle ode to the edgier details of the jacket.

What's your take on this burst of colour and how do you prefer dressing up in Indigo. Do share in the comments below or on Twitter/Instagram - #Styleplay #TrimmingsAndLace.

Culottes and Lilac Love

Trust your mom to give you the best fashion advice for life. She can battle all the notch heads to be a visionary when it comes to trends, statements and come-backs. Case in point these culottes, which my mom insisted me to HAVE and since then have been lying shunned except for those lazy days at home. Skinny and ankle-cropped pants have held the court for years now, and though they will never go out of style, it’s time to welcome some drama with culottes.
Culottes are a mark of innovative design. Cropped, wide-legged and falling a little lower than the Bermuda shorts, culottes encompass these stylish elements and spell élan and comfort in one.

Casual, sporty, sleek or tailored, I personally feel that the demure of culottes call for sophisticated dressing. Also, the silhouette and an over-flow of fabric can seem a little intimidating. Hence, minor attention to details never harms. A tucked boxy-top, a well-fitted top or T-Shirt or even your perfect fit button-down is the best way to accentuate the structure of culottes. Since I wore this outfit to a celebratory brunch, a little show of skin suited the occasion. Unlike the last time, I teamed this outfit with heels as they not only help elongate your frame and render some balance to the look, but also define the mid-calf area better. Now who can possibly mind that?
With temperatures soaring I kept the tone of the look very monotone (and soothing if I may call it myself) with statement earrings, a printed clutch and a pop via the heels providing the adequate amount of colour and break.

However you may choose to wear them, I vouch that culottes are a summer staple. Besides, isn’t culottes a cool word to say? Your dependable fashion idol, breather for legs and a cool word…I hope the post has been worth a wait!
Don’t forget to tell me about it in the comments section below. Also, you can join me on Twitter and Instagram for everyday updates on fashion and more.

It Is Okay Being Okay

Mostly, we are believers of the extreme. We believe that there is either a certain yes or a certain no. We are preached to keep our emotions and thoughts clear and transparent - this way or that way, black or white. A middle path - the grey's, neutral's or okay's - many a times define the weak. Those who allow the clouds of ambiguity to overpower them. Those who are uncertain and incapable of choosing between an obvious yes and no, correct and incorrect, right and wrong. But is being okay, is being amidst the greys and is holding a neutral approach really wrong? I feel that the real power or sign of strength actually comes by being okay. Okay defines the state where the threshold of your acceptance for things, circumstances, situations and even thoughts is higher than the consequence off them. Okay is the state of being YOU. I feel it is always easier to choose between the correct and the incorrect, but to choose the better of the correct and worse of the incorrect, accepting it and choosing the direction of your life from that cross-point is what demands strength. Success, failures, happiness, sadness, memories and regrets are the inescapable realities of life. Acceptance of either comes from being okay and being at a place where the difference between either is dissolved. That's a state where you become fearless and confident of your thoughts, actions and self. A fearless person doesn't judge and is often rewarded with the highest karma and that is of compassion. The strength to accept things in totality, respect the perspective of others, forgive and be at peace for ones own self.

Above are the thoughts from a week of 5am walks amidst the autumn chill and wrongly timed downpour. The unexpected always spurs new beginnings. All fashion posts back soon!

Neon-O-Matic : Acid Orange and Grey's

Elle describes wearing neon as the style equivalent of texting in all-Caps. Neon is the one trend that doesn’t seem to be on its way out, but you can’t blame any for loving it. Neon has its elements of risqué but when worn right the powerful punch of neons cannot be missed. Just like a red lipstick, a shade in neon – be that hot pink, acid yellow or a vibrant orange complements all skin tones.
An all neon look calls for a rave blast, but I personally loved how its mash-up with pastels and monotones was presented on the Spring/Summer 2013 runways. Hence, the minimalism and slate grey finish of this dress made it an instant grab. To add in the pastels, I carried this mint clutch (from here) and finished off with mint nails, something I haven’t gotten over since last year (Check!). Further, neon’s foray into leather makes it a perfect addition into the Fall wardrobe.
On another note, with “orange being the new black” and taking the New York Fashion Week Spring 2014 collections by storm, I can’t wait to add more of it into my wardrobe and up on the blog. These being my favourites (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

I hope you liked the look. Many thanks for the wonderful wonderful response on The TrimmingsAndLace Collection. The collection would be updated soon so stay tuned.
