Let's accept it. Fashion rules are meant to be broken. Broken, because if they aren't the infinite possibilities in trends and styles cannot emerge. Once a faux pas, the denim on denim trend has come a long way. Thanks to thriving street styles, A-listers and bloggers, sporting a chambray shirt with jeans feels fresh again. Having done stronger denim on denim looks here and here, I personally feel that a double denim look is all about finding a balance and identifying pieces that suit your body type the best. Lighter shades of denim tend to draw attention to the body areas they cover, while the darker washes create a slimming effect. My personal favourites in this regard which I deem as wardrobe essentials would be - a light wash chambray shirt, deep denim skinny jeans, a denim skirt, a denim jacket and distressed, medium wash shorts. Make sure you mix your denim wash-wise or weight-wise. If you are going in for a single tone look, add elements to break the monotony.

Jacquard Called Me Back

Summer dressing for me means treading the crossroads where fashion and comfort coincide. English print dresses, breezy cottons, flip-flops, wedges, minimal jewellery, nude nails and make-up, cut-offs and that old T-Shirt which has been worn to death, cross all boxes when it comes to my summer style. Personally, I feel any wardrobe is incomplete without the understated yet classic shirt dress. Ever since I ventured into designing, I realized that the basic cut of the shirt dress is something that largely defines my design sensibilities and hence also reflects in my everyday style. Collared, pleated, clinched the shirt dress spells easy, prim and dressy. Needless to say, a silhouette like this tops my list of summer dressing.
Much like such effortlessly stylish dresses, I have been sporting and loving jewellery that is simple, no-fuss and compliments outfits in a diverse range. If you have been following me on Instagram, you must be aware of my on-going project with Miss Flurrty. These gold bangles have become my everyday favourites and have been lying on my bed side, being a quick fix for meetings and shoots alike (check and here). Do you have any summer staples when it comes to clothes and jewellery? Don't forget to share it with me in the comments section below or tweet me at @TrimmingsNdLace.
Thank you for your love on my last two posts (Culottes and Lilac Love) (Undecided Love). I am truly grateful to each one of you. Thank you!

Watercolours And Serene Rumblings

If you've been a regular on the blog and my page, you must be having an idea about my crop-top infatuation turned obsession. So with a couple of posts lined up to do so, today let me not take you down the route of how the cropped trend is ruling the fashion scene and the numerous ways it can be worn.
Over the past few weeks, I have grown to acknowledge and accept more the lessons life teaches us everyday. These are a few thoughts I have been going to bed with and I am taking a chance to share them with you -

1. It has become increasing important for us in the present day to value our real relationships and accept the fact that virtual relations are, well virtual. As easy as it is to make a relation, a simple reject/block/unfollow is enough to break it. The human connect and presence has been reduced to a mere click. How lonely can this make us eventually, don't stick around to explore that.

2. Forgiveness - it is the hardest thing to do. It takes every inch of strength our body possesses to let go and forgive. But at the same, it is vital to understand that as humans we are bound to make mistakes - good, bad and ugly. And when the time is on us, we must also accept them and seek forgiveness. But one mustn't allow a mistake to govern his/her future. You cannot live being apologetic for the rest of your life. Your mistakes made you who you were, not necessarily to govern who you will be.

3. Imitation is indeed a very powerful gesture of flattery. But it stands justified only to an extent. Post that, its called stalking. You seriously don't need to do things the way I do - pictures, comments, social messages and even hashtags and fonts. Trust me, you can do better!

4. There is nothing in life that shall go unanswered. Sometimes, we twirl ourselves in egos, criticisms, anger, disgust, regret and revenge. And that's what proves we are human. But there is a stronger force above this all - Karma. Let it take its course. And it doesn't disappoint. But at the same time, make sure to keep your circle positive.

5. Rise above pettiness. There is more to life than indulging in the petty frictions it brings. Don't make or allow yourself to construct your life with mediocrity.

I would love if you all participate and share your views on the same. You can drop in comments, email me or send in a tweet. Thank you for reading.

Do-It-Yourself : Crop Up

Cropped tops have been the hottest trend this summer with celebrities, fashionistas and bloggers adorning the same with complete aplomb. I have simply grown to love this trend and cannot have enough of it. There are cropped T-Shirts, button-downs, knotted plaids, turtle necks, bralets and corsets…et all. What’s better is that cropped tops which ruled the roost this summer are sticking around for spring 2014 as well. So, ladies let’s keep those crunches going!
Whether paired with leggings, shorts, a high-waisted skirt, palazzo pants or a maxi skirt, a good crop top will never let you down. You can show a little or a lot of skin depending on what you’re comfortable with and you can even opt for half or full sleeves, cutouts, embellishments — pretty much anything! However, this doesn’t mean that you have to burn your pockets to fit the bill. All you need to do is some chopping and cropping and this runway to street style trend is all yours!

You’ll need:

  1. A top/T-Shirt – I picked an old body suit.
  2. Measuring Tape
  3. Scissors
  4. Needle
  5. Matching thread
  6. Some sewing skills - If this part is a little tricky, you always have your local tailor.

Steps:

  1. Using the measuring tape, measure the length that suits you. Ideally, a cropped top reveals only the midriff.
  2. Mark the length.
  3. Using a pair of scissors cut along the mark. If you cannot cut along a straight line, you can give it a curved shape.
  4. Once done, simply hem the top/T-Shirt.

Style Tip:

If you wish to show less skin, always opt for something high-waisted to go with your cropped top – an A-line skirt, skater skirt, trousers or palazzo pants. This is the easiest way to rock the look!
