I won't be stating anything new or different when I say that certain specific colours and palettes have made a serious contribution when it comes to my personal dressing and the styling assignments I undertake. So much so, that these fashion ideals of mine have made a smooth exit from my wardrobe and have become symbolic to many emotions and pleasant episodes of my life. Hence last week, when I was asked to style for Lifestyle and play around the colour Indigo, I couldn't help but go overboard with joy and excitement. Indigo is the electric, androgynous and bold shade of navy and among the very rare shades that transcends beautifully into anything - fashion, art, architecture. Add it as a vital burst of colour into your outfit or allow it to shine uninterrupted, this shade makes a statement like no other. Being a ruler this year over the runways, there is just no excuse to not wear it. Its a colour one can indulge in effortlessly. A well tailored blazer or a pair of trousers are safe options to begin with. I am also always drawn towards a pair of cobalt heels because I believe they are a great statement piece. Irrespective of the degrees to which this colour appeals you, there is no denying that it is an absolute must-have for your wardrobe and mood. 

Another great investment piece, which might tax your pocket a bit but is a game-changer when it comes to putting together your outfits is the glam churned biker/moto jacket. This number was the first piece that caught my attention at the Lifestyle store and I just knew that I had to have it. My first thoughts were to style it with the quintessential white summer dress or something that involves lace. However, being a dominant shade for Autumn/Winter'14, I decided to create a 'transition into fall' look and contrasted it with this deep berry dress. Biker jackets for me work best when complimented with soft, delicate details like lace and embellishments. Hence, the beaded neck-line of this dress provided the perfect base. I added another pop of colour via the pumps and finished the outfit with accessories that provide a subtle ode to the edgier details of the jacket.

It feels like quite some time since my last post. Well, September is it? Fifteen days down is it? No, not that I am not in 'touch' with the regular, just that time seems to have been set on a bullet. The last I knew I was planning my sister's wedding in February and here we are almost at the threshold of a new year. As much as this period excites me because it brings in all the festivities and celebrations, it kind of gets me under pressure because it also mirrors the journey so far and the milestones that are yet to be achieved. For me personally, I feel blessed to have the kind of people in my life who always help shape this pressure as a positive, launch pad for me to push my limits and seek the various adventures of creativity. It is natural for us to bog down under time frames and targets but we must remember that what's worth it is what has every drop of our sweat and perseverance. Plus delays are never denials.

Luscious fruit prints have been ruling the summer'14 platforms for a while now. The sheer deliciousness at sight attracts me more towards them than an element of associated quirk. Cherries and pineapples did their good, but where a print involves shades of green set against the white - it belongs to me. Hence, these kiwi print trousers are such a score and I simply cannot get over them. To highlight the print to its full potential, I made a last minute switch from a pale pink top to this cobalt number. With the weather smoothing by the day, I can't wait to romance more and more of colour. To add an element to offset this look and another layer in terms of styling, I contrasted the top and mixed prints with the pants by way of my favourite leopard pumps.

There exists no such phenomenon that excites me more than the weather. Weather is not something that exists naturally or subconsciously for me. For me every season and its variations are somewhere symbolic to all those moments and memories that have shaped my life so far and dreams held for the future. Weather to me a that guide that reminds me of where I was, the lessons I've learnt and where I want and will be. Needless to include all dressing choices. As kids we all had a thing. The usual thing which you 'present' in front of your family and extended family, the thing where you are in the spotlight and made to showcase your 'talents'. Yes, that thing! So, being the weather girl was mine. This perhaps justifies my fixation with the weather. And, by the way if you didn't really have that 'thing' you've missed a lot in the quintessential Indian childhood.

This post is reflective of the same. We started shooting this look on one such humid, sunny day. So bad that we shot a few pictures and then decided to give up on the day. Said too soon maybe, and within minutes a sea of clouds appeared from nowhere and it became pleasantly windy and before we knew we were drenched. Point here, if you've never had to a moment getting soaked in the rain, hustling to get to a dry spot...really where do you live?

Although my colour palette too is very weather defined, but like I've said before red is a forever exception. A dress encapsulating a boho vibe mixed with the old school block heels and minimum jewellery were perfect to embrace the sun, swirl the wind and swipe through the rain. What say you?

A few days back I had an opportunity to share with you guys the latest initiative in fashion by Max. The event was all the more special for me because I was hosting the same as the official stylist and fashion adviser for Max. Being in a virtual space, we bloggers get limited chances to interact with our readers and all those who make our work what it is. Being an event which captured my facets of fashion, style and photography, it undoubtedly grabbed a lot of audience. This gave me an opportunity to indulgence in an overwhelming experience to meet and interact with some of you. Thank you to all those who came and spared time. I hope to bump into our selfies someday. Thank you to all those you gave in such meaningful suggestions about my work. I hope to stand up to those. And, thank you to Max for this amazing opportunity for me to feel and spread some love. Truly grateful!

Do-It-Yourself : Gladiator Sandals

Gladiator sandals have been enjoying a mainstream moment for quite sometime now. Having crept into the fashion circuit last year, thanks to multiple designers and bloggers embracing this trend, it has made an official shift from the ramp to the streets. Whether knee-high or ankle-high, heeled or flat, wish as much as you want to scream sparta, there is no denying that this trend is sexy, edgy and oh-so-chic. Not only are they a stylish compliment to your outfit but are also an interesting DIY to attempt. Although, flat knee-high sandals are my favourite version of the gladiators, thanks to your love on this post I couldn't help but share the 'shoe-secret'. 

You'll need:

1. A pair of sandals - T-straps work the best. I chose these because of a relatively caged and covered effect they render.

2. A faux leather trim - Try to match the width of the trim with the straps of your sandals. 

3. Scissors

Steps:

1. Start by measuring out the trims. I used about 3 meters of the trim, divided into half for each leg.

2. Next, weave the trim through or under the existing straps of your sandals. Make sure you have half on each side and have an equal length to hold. Alternatively, you can also glue the trim to the straps. 

3. Make a firm loop around the strap so that the trim and the straps are held together firmly. Repeat for both.

4. The fun part is to weave and criss-cross the trim around the legs. Here you need to be sure that you are raising the trim symmetrically and at an an equal height for both legs. Also, make sure it is firm and doesn't slip while walking.

5. Weave it as high depending upon how dramatic a look you prefer. Secure it by tying the trims into a bow and voila!
